Unlike the now infamous “Web 2.0” moniker “Service 2.0” isn’t about progression of one technology to another, it’s about a whole new concept of Information Technology Service.

Service 2.0 is about demand driven services – a Top down approach to learning about your business and helping you align technology and information services to achieve your business goals and satisfy your internal demand.

Service 2.0 is about people driven processes – Look at technology not as a replacement to people but as infrastructure to support people. Service 2.0 is about putting the right technology into the right hands to get the right information to the right people.

Service 2.0 is a simplificaiton of process – Not only the right tool for the right job but making sure that the processes are repeatable, manageable and auditable for complete IT awareness.

Service 2.0 is a management of process – Yesterday it was called Managed Services, today it is Service 2.0. Why Service 2.0? Managed Services assume that one others best practices or support systems are utility for all when Service 2.0 is a mindset that utility is only meaningfull if it is useable to meet specific demand.

How do you tell the difference between Service and Service 2.0?

Service “1.0″: Technology as a Utility. ”Raw Services” that are provided with a concept that they’re always on and more of a utility that can be a cost effective solution to internal software/support solutions – AKA “Managed Hosting” with always on/high available hosting solutions.

Service “2.0″: Give purpose to technology & functionality to services – AKA “Managed Hosting” not only with high availability but actual solutions to business demands: Content Management, Best Practices, Reporting, Auditing, Tracking. Hosting a website is the easiest part, helping make it competitive, manageable and marketable is Service 2.0.

Service 2.0 isn’t about just providing the technology, its providing all the benefits of technology in an easy to use, managed and highly available solution. Its about creating awareness, satisfying demand and adding value.
